Overview & Highlights

If you're an oyster aficionado or simply a lover of fresh seafood, then you'll find heaven at Tiram Sungai Merbok in Bedong, Kedah, Malaysia. Nestled by the bank of the picturesque Merbok River, this hidden gem is more than just a seafood restaurant; it’s an experience. Known for its exceptional selection of fresh river oysters, Tiram Sungai Merbok stands out not only for the quality of its offerings but also for its stunning views and unique setting.

Imagine dining on plump, juicy oysters sourced directly from their adjacent oyster farm, where you can witness the harvesting process firsthand. According to a delighted visitor, Qasim Rahim, “We got to see how they grow, grade, and harvest the oysters, and even learned how to shuck them.” This connection to the source amplifies the freshness and flavors, making for a truly memorable meal. The oysters are served with a variety of condiments like chopped ground nuts and crispy shallots, but for the purists, a simple squeeze of lemon enhances the briny essence beautifully.

The ambiance is equally inviting. With the gentle breeze from the river and a serene landscape of mangroves surrounding the restaurant, Caroline, Kah Ling Ho remarked, “Environment is very serene and windy. Nice place to hang out even on a hot afternoon.” This tranquil setting, paired with the thrill of fresh oyster tasting, creates a delightful dining experience that’s hard to beat.

While the seafood is the star of the show, the restaurant is committed to sustainability as well. They grow mangroves and run a free school supported by volunteers, emphasizing their dedication to the local community and environment. This holistic approach adds an enriching layer to your visit, allowing you to feel good about your meal while enjoying the local culture.

Nevertheless, be warned that demand for these delectable oysters can be high, as noted by Sharifah Najihah, who mentioned that stocks are often limited due to boat trips bringing in eager diners. However, if you're fortunate enough to arrive just before the rush, you’re in for a treat!

In conclusion, Tiram Sungai Merbok is not just a place to eat; it’s a destination. With its unbeatable combination of fresh oysters, breathtaking scenery, and a commitment to sustainability, it promises an unforgettable seafood experience that beckons all seafood lovers. Make sure to plan your visit soon, and perhaps you might just discover your new favorite spot!

A hidden gem for those who love to enjoy fresh oysters. Yes fresh oysters as they have oyster farm next to the restaurant. The foods are freshly made with reasonable price. The best moment to eat and enjoy your foods with spectacular view of Merbok River - this is the main reason to come apart from oyster hunt.

great experience stock for oysters are limited as there’s always group coming from the boat trip I guess. We were lucky we came just bef a group of people. A bit hard to get in as the road arent great.

Kedah Trip 4/6 - LOCAL OYSTER FARM IN KEDAH Had an amazing time back in July 2023 at the oyster farm in Sungai Merbok, Kedah, Malaysia – our first visit ever! We got to see how they grow, grading and harvest the oysters, and even learned how to shuck them. The best part? Tasting those super fresh oysters at a reasonable price! It costs us RM50 for 10pcs of oysters. These fresh river oysters come with a special variety of condiments. Chopped ground nuts, crispy fried shallots or a chili sugar sauce. We’d prefer stick to the basic, lemon juice bring out the briny flavours of those plump. We just loved it. The farm is surrounded by mangroves, and there's a cool boat house just next to it. It's a hidden gem that more people should know about. Highly recommend it for a unique and fun experience!

Excellent fresh oysters of two types. 5 rm for the smallest type, 7rm for the larger type A very nice setting, directly on the merbok river, friendly owner showed me how they keep the oysters. They also run a free school run by volunteers. And they grow mangroves. A must visit place when you are in the area. You can also take a river trip when you are there

Oysters were very fresh and juicy. They harvested and prepared on the spot on us. Environment is very serene and windy. Nice place to hangout even on a hot afternoon.
